Teaching Practice Session 1137 words

Date: 2026-06-06

Duration: 60 mins

Location: Halo, Killarney

Client name / initials: DOS

Client level: Beginner

Session goals: Strength

What I taught (exercises & sequence): Footwork
Double leg - toes, arches and heels
Tendon stretch, walking and running
Pilates V
Supine arms
Arm arcs, Tricep press, arm circles, t arms
Core
Hundreds, Coordination

What I noticed about my teaching: Breath work cues were poor- I kept mixing up the inhale and exhale and felt I gave too many throughout the movements. I also struggled to keep track of reps.
I gave good clear cues in terms of springs and set up on the carriage.

Reflection: what would I do differently?: I would stop over cueing things and keep cues concise and specific.
My footwork cues worked well for the client.

Duration: 60 mins

Location: Halo, Killarney

Client name / initials: DOS MRS ED NF

Client level: Mixed - reformer group

Session goals: Footwork and upper body strength

What I taught (exercises & sequence): Footwork - 3 springs
Double leg - toes, arches and heels
Tendon stretch, walking and running
Pilates V
Supine arms - 2 springs red & blue
Arm arcs, Tricep press, arm circles, t arms
Core
Hundreds, Coordination

What I noticed about my teaching: Felt more confident today teaching the exercises to the group.
Cues that worked for breathing - inhale to prepare and then cue the movement
I used language like extend and flex when describing exercises and I realised that not everyone understands that so I will simplify that for next time.

Reflection: what would I do differently?: Introduce simpler cues and not use specific or technical language about movements or muscles targeted because most people aren’t familiar.
I moved well around the reformers today and manage to check in with everyone.

Oblique roll back
Half roll back bicep curl
Half roll back back low row
Half roll back high row
Kneeling bicep curl
Kneeling chest expansion
Kneeling t arm

What I noticed about my teaching: Cues that work well - think about broadening through the collarbones keeping chest open

Safety - gaze and head forward to stop someone from falling forward & taking movement with upper body

Reflection: what would I do differently?: I’d get them moving first and then start cueing what I see. I gave too many cues at the start and too much for them to consider.

Date: 2026-06-30

Duration: 60 minutes

Location: Halo, Killarney

Client name / initials: NF

Client level: Intermediate

Session goals: Strength - total body

What I taught (exercises & sequence): Warm Up - Footwork - 3 heavy springs
Heels on bar, Pilates V, Pilates V pulses, Toes on bar
Tendon stretch, calf raises, walking
Single Leg heels on bar, Single leg pulses
Supine Arms - two springs
T-Arms, Tricep press, Arm circles
Hundred Prep, Hundreds

Lunge, Scooter
Adducter, Abducter, Squat, Skater
Planks - Knees Off, Plank Hold
Child pose stretch
Back Rowing Series
Low Row
High Row
Bicep Curl
Long Stretch
Down Stretch

What I noticed about my teaching: During the Long Stretch, I found it difficult to give clear, continuous cues throughout the exercise. I would like to improve my cueing around shoulder positioning, maintaining a neutral spine, engaging the core, and encouraging clients to move the carriage with control rather than relying on the arms.
During the Plank Hold, I noticed that I missed some key alignment cues while focusing on the flow of the class. I would like to give more consistent reminders to press through the hands, engage the core, keep the shoulders stable, and maintain a straight line from head to heels.
I also wasnt sure what spring options to offer.
I felt much more confident teaching the other exercises.

Reflection: what would I do differently?: Going forward, I plan to practise my cueing for the above mentions exercises so it becomes more natural and concise. This will allow me to deliver clear instructions while observing clients' technique and providing individual corrections where needed.

Teaching Practice Session 10210 words

Date: 2026-07-01

Duration: 60mins

Location: Halo, Killarney

Client name / initials: NF

Client level: Intermediate

Session goals: Build strength - legs, upper body & core

What I taught (exercises & sequence): Warm Up - Footwork - 3 heavy springs
Heels on bar, Pilates V, Pilates V pulses, Toes on bar
Tendon stretch, calf raises, walking
Single Leg heels on bar, Single leg pulses
Supine Arms - two springs
T-Arms, Tricep press, Arm circles
Hundred Prep, Hundreds
Lunge Series - two springs
Lunge, Scooter
Adducter, Abducter, Squat, Skater
Planks - Knees Off, Plank Hold
Child pose stretch
Back Rowing Series
Low Row
High Row
Bicep Curl
Long Stretch
Down Stretch

What I noticed about my teaching: I think I was aware of peoples alignment during footwork and used tactile cueing to encourage correct positioning and alignment.
During the rowing series, I could have reminded clients more frequently to avoid shrugging their shoulders and to initiate the movement from the back muscles. Shoulders down & back wasn't effective for this client they stuck their chest out instead of drawing shoulders down.

Reflection: what would I do differently?: I would change my cueing for the shoulders.
I would keep offering spring changes if needed for exercises.
